Jessup International Moot Court Team Wins Regional Competition

A Duke Law team won the Southeast Regional phase of the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition Feb. 20-23 in Memphis, Tenn.

The team of Jim Insco ‘03, Tim Kuhner ‘04, Mayur Patel ‘04, Jim Pelletier‘03, and Tim Pomarole ‘04 will now advance to the World Championship Round of the competition. Teams from more than 50 nations will travel to Washington, D.C. Apr. 1-5 to compete in the Championship.

The Duke Law team was undefeated throughout the entire tournament and were seeded number one going into the semifinals on Feb. 22, where they defeated the University of Florida. On Sunday, Duke defeated the University of Georgia in the regional final. Duke was also awarded the honor of Best Memorial, and Jim Pelletier was named Second Best Oralist.

The Jessup competition is organized by the International Law Students Association. At the regional level, teams from American law schools compete against approximately a dozen other schools. Regional champions advance to the to the international rounds in Washington, D.C., which occur in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Society of International Law (ASIL).
