Faculty Lives in Public Service features Professor Carolyn McAllaster

Main Content

The Faculty Lives in Public Service series continues on Tuesday, March 25, with a talk by Professor Carolyn McAllaster. Professor McAllaster is the director of the AIDS Legal Assistance Project at Duke. Prior to founding the AIDS Legal Assistance Project, Professor McAllaster maintained her own practice in which she handled a variety of complex litigation in North Carolina state and federal courts.

In 1979, five members of the Communist Worker's Party were shot and killed by klansmen and nazis during an anti-Ku Klux Klan demonstration in Greensboro, North Carolina. Professor McAllaster will talk about her experience in representing the families of those killed in the highly charged and publicized federal civil rights lawsuit brought against members of the Ku Klux Klan, the American Nazi party, and various government officials.

The talk will take place at 12:15 p.m. in Room 3043 and is co-sponsored by WLSA as part of Women's History Month. Lunch will be served courtesy of the Office of Public Interest and Pro Bono.
