Level 1 contains treatises with call numbers A-KE and KG-Z, which includes foreign and international law. It also includes unclassified materials; the National Reporter System (regional case reporters); United States government documents; superseded reference, tax, and looseleaf materials; briefs and records from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and the North Carolina Court of Appeals; the Faculty Collection; and all oversize materials. All microforms are located in the Microforms Room.
Level 1 is a quiet study floor, and offers a variety of carrel and table seating. Eight of the Law School's nine student-edited journals maintain office space on this floor.
