Duke Law Wellness is an ongoing series of events focused on promoting overall health and wellness for students to encourage personal and academic success throughout their time in law school and in their legal careers.

  • Law School Third Floor Mezzanine

    Take a break and relax with Duke! Take a tour of the Duke Lemur Center, the largest sanctuary for prosimian primates in the world. We will meet in the 3rd floor loggia at 12pm to travel to the Lemur Center together. Space is limited, please RSVP to Sarah Battersby at sarah.battersby@law.duke.edu.

  • Law School Blue Lounge

    Red Cross Blood Drive: Come donate blood. The Blood Drive will take place in the Blue Lounge from 9am until 4pm. Sign up in advance online to reserve an appointment. For more information, contact Hyatt Howardat hyatt.howard@duke.edu with any questions.

    Thomas Szigethy, Director of the Duke Wellness Center, will talk with students about recognizing the signs and symptoms of alcohol abuse, understanding tolerance and blood alcohol level, risk factors, and how students can take steps to get help and what resources are available.     PILF is holding its fifth annual Race Judicata 5K run/walk on the Al Buehler Trail! This event raises funding to support PILF's mission and enables Duke Law students to work in unpaid public interest positions by providing summer grants. Join us for food, fun, and prizes! Register online at active.com (search Duke Law Race Judicata), at one of our tabling sessions, or the day of the race. Registration is $20 before September 29, $25 the day of the race. Registration begins at 9:30 am on September 29.

Jean Hanson, the associate director for clinical services at Student Health, will provide an overview of Student Health services and answer your questions about resources. Lunch will be provided.     The Art of Living Foundation --a volunteer-based, humanitarian and educational non-governmental organization (NGO) invites the Duke Law Community to join the Success Without Stress Workshop, hosted by instructor Ananth Shankar. This is an internationally acclaimed seminar based on innovative breathing techniques that can reduce stress and heighten mental clarity and awareness. The seminar integrates modern methods with ancient wisdom to help individuals lead a more fulfilling and productive life. The techniques and processes introduced during the seminar are easy to learn and practice, improving human performance in the workplace, creating a greater sense of commitment and team unity, improved relationships, and enhancing overall quality of life. Please note this session is open for people with any or no experience of yoga or breathing exercises or meditation. Admission is FREE. Please come on light stomach.     Successful financial management while in law school and beyond may be difficult. Join us for a discussion with a Duke Credit Union financial planner to talk about ways to create and build a successful financial management plan. She will talk about creating a budget, the importance of budgeting, loan repayment, the importance of credit, and even provide information about managing finances for those who want to buy a house. This panel discussion is being held as part of the ongoing Wellness Wednesday series. Lunch will be provided.   • Law School Marcy's Garden

    The companionship of a pet has been shown to reduce stress and increase happiness in those who own them. Students, faculty, and staff who are interested in learning more about pet adoption, or who are in search of a new furry companion, are invited to meet some pets from the Independent Animal Rescue as part of the ongoing Wellness Wednesday series. Pets will be available to adopt for those interested in doing so. Otherwise, information will be available about future adoptions, and staff will be able to answer your questions about the responsibilities of pet ownership.   • Law School Star Commons

    Students are invited to gather and create hand-crafted Valentines for that special someone. Members of Off the Record, Duke Law's a Capella group, will sing special love songs while students make cards and other mementos. Paper, pens, and other embellishments will be provided.
