    Gene Matthews is the Director of the Southeastern Regional Center of the Network for Public Health Law; Senior Fellow at the North Carolina Institute for Public Health at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health and served for 25 years as the Chief Legal Advisor in the Office of General Counsel at the CDC. Professor Matthews is interested in politics with a little p, and how legal advocates can develop richer messages that reach broader audiences. He will discuss strategies for legal advocacy, using examples from public health, on how to shape messages to the intuitive values that resonate with both liberals and conservatives. Professor Matthews will also discuss using social media for advocacy and the role of millennials as messengers in our turbulent political environment.     Join a group of your fellow law students for a special traditional Japanese tea experience where you will learn about tea culture and its significance in Japan. There will be a demonstration of the tea making procedure and you will enjoy a sample of the whisked green tea and a Japanese confection.     A conversation & book signing with John Carreyrou T'94, author & investigative journalist for The Wall Street Journal.

    Duke alum John Carreyrou will discuss and sign his bestselling book about the rise and fall of the blood-testing firm Theranos. It's a fascinating tale of Silicon Valley ambition and deceit - and the great journalism that uncovered the truth. The Regulator bookstore will be present to sell copies of the book on site. John will be signing books after the event.
