CLRP Co-Sponsors Movie Night: Silver Dollar Road

On November 15, 2023, the Duke Law Center on Law, Race & Policy (CLRP) co-sponsored a movie screening of the new documentary Silver Dollar Road. The use of the legal system to dispossess Black families of their land is an ugly, painful and far too common feature of the American experience. Since the start of the 1900s, for example, at least 90% of land once owned by Black farmers has been lost through legal mechanisms such as the partition of heir's property. This is not just a historical pattern, however, but one that continues today.

Silver Dollar Road, as described by The New York Times, is "an intimate documentary [that] focuses on one family's recent battle to keep their home in North Carolina. The event was in conjunction with the Community Enterprise Clinic and the Office of Public Interest and Pro Bono and co-sponsored by Duke Law Affinity Organizations: ACS, APALSA, BLSA, DBA, LALSA, NALSA, and NLG.
