Over spring break, 11 Duke Law students traveled to Asheville, NC to assist with a record expunction clinic hosted by Pisgah Legal Services. In just one week, students helped prepare 446 petitions and served 24 clients, building legal skills while making a tangible impact in the community.

Students met with Buncombe County District Court Judges Meredith Pressley and Robin Merrill to learn more about their journeys to the bench, careers in public service, and commitment to expanding access to justice in Western North Carolina.
Inside the Buncombe County Courthouse, students observed courtroom procedures, met with local legal professionals, and saw how expunction efforts support broader access to opportunity and second chances.

After a rewarding week of service, students and supervising attorneys hiked the Strawberry Gap Trail to reflect, recharge, and celebrate the impact of their work in the mountains of Asheville.
