Amy Pope '01 joined Dean Kerry Abrams on Thursday for a fascinating conversation about her journey from Duke Law to leading humanitarian efforts in crises around the globe as Director General of the International Organization for Migration. 

IOM is the foremost intergovernmental organization in the field of migration, and under Pope's leadership, advocates policy on some of the most pressing issues facing the world today, including humanitarian crises and climate change. Pope began her five-year term on Oct. 1, 2013, the first woman to serve in as Director General in the IOM’s 72-year history. She has also served in senior leadership positions on the National Security Council staff for Presidents Obama and Biden and as counsel for the United States Senate and the Department of Justice on issues involving migration, human trafficking, civil rights, criminal justice, preparing communities to respond and adapt to climate-related crises, and national security.
