5 Questions for Autumn Hamit '14

Autumn Hamit '14

Autumn Hamit '14 chose Duke Law for the challenging courses and the intelligent and driven student body.

1. Where is your hometown?

I grew up in Flower Mound, Texas (near Dallas); however, I was born in Corpus Christi, TX and lived in New York City for a couple years.

2. Why did you choose Duke Law?

When I visited I was really impressed with the students that I met and the classes. The classes I observed were challenging and the students seemed very intelligent and driven; Duke seemed like a great institution with which to be associated. I also had grown to enjoy the Southeast while an undergraduate at Furman University and that played a role in my decision.

3. When you are not at school, how do you like to spend your time?

I like to spend my time having game nights with friends – especially when I win.

4. What’s the most recent book you read, and what did you think?

White Noise by Don DeLillo is the most recent book I’ve read, and I thoroughly enjoyed his portrayal of the postmodern experience. I’m currently reading The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression by Amity Shlaes, and it has been quite interesting so far.

5. What is your favorite Durham restaurant or activity and why?

While it’s outside of Durham, Falls Lake Park is not too far of a drive and it is a great place to go swimming and get away in the warmer months. If choosing something outside of Durham is cheating, then I would pick Rise – they make some pretty creative (and delicious) donuts.
