Duke Law Groups Partner with Leading Artificial Intelligence Innovator

Legal tech innovator and leading artificial intelligence tool ROSS Intelligence is partnering with Duke Law to expand access to legal services and explore the future of law and technology.

Among other collaborations, ROSS will not only offer its AI-based research tool to various Duke Law courses and library researches but also will provide mentorship to start-ups involved with the Duke Law Tech Lab, Duke Law’s pre-accelerator program for legal technologies.

After already speaking with law school faculty last fall, ROSS Intelligence CEO and Co-Founder Andrew Arruda will share his thoughts AI, legal innovation, and the role of technology in expanding access to legal services at an upcoming session with students from the law school and beyond. The open lunchtime event, co-sponsored by Duke Law Technology Review, the Duke Law Tech Lab, and the Law & Entrepreneurship Society, will take place on January 19th in Room 3041.

“The folks at ROSS, and Andrew in particular, have helped to bolster Duke Law’s march toward being a leading center of law tech innovation,” says Jeff Ward, Associate Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Start-Up Ventures Clinic. “Andrew will work with start-ups in the Duke Law Tech Lab this spring, and will continue to share his insights with entrepreneurs across campus at Duke. More than anything, though, we appreciate ROSS’s commitment to ensuring that legal tools help to expand access to legal services among the underserved. I can't wait to see what ROSS and Duke Law will be able to accomplish together.”

“We are very proud to announce our partnership with Duke Law. Working with Duke Law Tech Lab startups, having students and faculty gain access to ROSS technology and working together to improve access to justice is something we are very much looking forward to” says Arruda. “I'm excited by what ROSS and Duke law will be able to accomplish together.”

Mr. Arruda—named as one of Legal Week’s “Top 20 Legal IT Innovators 2016” and, along with his co-founders, to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list—will also speak with Triangle-area entrepreneurs at Durham’s American Underground (event RSVP) and with students involved with some of Duke Law’s key access to justice initiatives.
