Alumni in the news recently for career moves, honors, and promotions

Kristin Bacchus JD/LLM ’11 has joined Holland & Knight's Financial Services team as a partner. Kristin was previously partner at Loeb & Loeb. She represents financial institutions in connection with secured and unsecured loans to private equity sponsors and principals, corporate entities, investment vehicles and individuals.

Her practice encompasses an array of domestic and cross-border finance transactions, including partner loan and co-investment programs, hedge fund lending, securities-based lending, art lending, leveraged buyouts, bridge financings and subscription facilities. 

John Hoffman JD/LLM '92 has been nominated by Gov. Phil Murphy to serve as a justice on the New Jersey Supreme Court. John is general counsel and senior vice president at Rutgers University, where he has worked since 2016. Prior to that, he served was acting attorney general for the state from June 2013 to March 2016. He has also served in the Civil Division of the Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Trenton, and the New Jersey State Comptroller’s Office, where he served as director of investigations.

Reed Hollander ’96 has been appointed chair of the North Carolina Bar Association Tax Section for the 2024-2025 term. Reed is a former chair of the NCBA Constitutional Rights & Responsibilities Section and is a member of its Litigation and Appellate Practice Sections.

At Young Moore, Reed represents clients in a variety of industries including retail, manufacturing, life sciences, and healthcare in matters involving tax strategy, administrative challenges and appeals, and contested cases before the North Carolina Property Tax Commission and  Office of Administrative Hearings. He also represents clients in matters involving eminent domain and condemnation law, economic development, and administrative and business litigation. 

Andrew Lane '19 has joined Maynard Nexsen's Complex & Commercial Litigation practice group in its Austin office. Andrew previously served as a defense attorney with the Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps, the legal arm of the U.S. Army.

Andrew has experience representing clients in a wide variety of actions, supporting federal criminal litigation and administrative law issues and writing and arguing complex legal motions. He also advises on contract and fiscal law, cyber warfare, military justice and national security law issues.

Margot Laporte ’09 joined Dorsey & Whitney LLP as a partner in the Government Solutions & Investigations group in Washington, D.C., moving from Miller & Chevalier.

A French citizen, Margot advises global clients on cross-border internal and regulatory investigations, white collar criminal defense, securities enforcement matters, and regulatory compliance, including with respect to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, anti-money laundering regulations, economic sanctions laws, insider trading, and accounting fraud. 

O. Randolph Rollins ’68, a private practice attorney in Henry County, has been elected to represent the 21st Judicial Circuit on the Virginia State Bar Council, the governing body of the state bar, beginning July 1. 

Randy works in private practice and runs his farm in Henry County. Previously he was a partner in corporate and securities law at McGuireWoods, and under Gov. Doug Wilder he served as secretary of public safety for Virginia, where his duties included overseeing 11 public safety agencies including the Virginia State Police, the Department of Corrections, and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

In 2007, Randy founded Drive to Work, a statewide nonprofit organization that assists low income and previously incarcerated persons in Virginia with restoring their driving privileges. 

Sara Trickett JD/LLM ’06 has been elevated to chief legal officer and corporate secretary at Portland, Maine-based WEX, overseeing its legal functions and managing a team of in-house counsel across multiple U.S. office locations, including the company’s Maine headquarters and offices in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and South America. 

Sara joined WEX, a global commerce platform that helps businesses solve operational challenges, in 2021. She has served in various leadership roles at the company, including deputy general counsel and vice president for corporate legal services and, most recently, acting general counsel. Prior to joining WEX, she was senior managing counsel at Visa for over nine years and an attorney at Latham & Watkins.
