Sirine Shebaya & Eliazar Posada | The Disproportionate Impact of COVID-19 on Immigrant Communities
Immigrants are still detained in overcrowded and unsanitary detention centers while COVID-19 continues to spread. Between 15% and 20% of those tested in detention are positive for COVID-19, but ICE has refused to release immigrants from these facilities. Additionally, the Latinx community faces unique hurdles in accessing COVID-19 related services and remaining safe in their workplaces. Please join us for a discussion with Sirine Shebaya, Executive Director at the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, who has been fighting for the release of immigrants from detention, and Eliazar Posada, Director of Community Engagement & Advocacy at El Centro Hispano in North Carolina, who has been advocating for the needs of North Carolina's Latinx communities in a COVID-19 world.
